Custodian at Private School (san jose west)

The Harker School, a private K – 12, located in San Jose, CA seeks qualified applicants for the position of Custodian to work the night shift. This is an entry level position, training will be provided. Hours of work will be Monday - Friday, 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm. This is a full time year round position paying $10.50 per hour.


POSITION PURPOSE: The Custodian will maintain cleanliness and interior appearance, health and safety of all assigned school buildings. This includes daily janitorial duties, campus event set-ups, annual school term start-up activities and student vacation cleaning assignments.


PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES & REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
• While this is an entry level position preference will be given to those applicants with prior experience.
• Experience in operation of vacuums, buffers, carpet extractors and other powered floor cleaning equipment.
• Understanding of safe handling techniques for related cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to operate building security alarm systems.
• Must have the ability to communicate & understand in effective verbal English
• Ability to hear individuals, groups, telephone and intercom communications, public address announcements, emergency signals, etc.
• Must be able to see and read safety notices.
• Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs to a 4 ft height and up to 25 ft.
• Ability to push and pull 250 lbs up to 100 feet on platform type cargo dollie.
• Ability to climb on ladders, scaffolds and roofs.
• Must possess effective eye-hand and foot-hand-eye coordination.
• Must be able to tolerate aerobic activities of job including constant standing, walking, and grasping
• Frequent crouching, turning/twisting, and bending
• Occasional sitting, kneeling, driving, climbing, reaching, handling, fingering and throwing

Position: Supervisor B shift Sunday – Wednesday 6 PM to 6 AM (night shift) compressed work week

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Manufacturing

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Management Responsibilities for Thin Film Solar Manufacturing facility A shift (front end of week). Production and process development. Direct management of contract hourly workforce. Projects as assigned including MES implementation, inventory control, logistics, and other industrial engineering requirements. Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

2. Responsible for overall plant costs including budgeting, capital expenditures and inventories.

3. Develop work teams in lean manufacturing to implement Total Productive Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement systems and methods.

4. Develop employee cross training programs with focus on continuous improvement in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost.

5. Participate in product/process development working with R&D and engineering departments to implement rapid cycles of learning.

6. Develops and implements metrics to measure success and drive improvements.

SPECIAL SKILLS /EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Results oriented, preferably with a technical background, with a history of continuous improvement as a Lean leader in a high-speed dynamic environment. Expert in Microsoft Office including Excel, Power Point, and Word

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization. Effectively work with R&D engineering. Excellent analytical and decision making skills. Able to build consensus using data when needed. Self driven to achieve results on time.

Project management is a critical part of this position. Must be able document, communicate and drive a project from inception to completion on time and within budget.

Experience in identifying areas of improvement, planning and leading Kaizen events, value stream mapping, error proofing visual workplace, standards implementation, time studies, cycle time analysis and improvements, capacity and labor planning.

EDUCATION: 4 year degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent. Non-degreed engineers will be considered if they have more than 5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing environment.

• Handles all guest service requests. Takes room service orders and directs appropriate staff member to assemble and deliver the order

• Keeps records of room availability and guests’ accounts. Operates AutoClerk, the Front Office software. Maintains the guest history computer

• Computes bill, collects payment, and makes change for guests.

• Updates on line reservations system via internet
• Posts charges such as room, food, liquor, or telephone to guest accounts
• Balances daily or shift audit on the billing computer. Maintains appropriate bank, issued to each individual
• Assists guests with depositing their valuables in safe deposit boxes
• Cleans and organizes the front desk area
