CNA/Nurse/Student Nurse; Live-In (Close West End, near Willow Lawn)

Opening for a fill-in nursing position to care for gentle elderly lady w/Alzheimer's (5'2"/100 lbs.). This job requires 24-hour shifts with a minimum of 1-day shifts and is to serve as a fill-in position for 2 existing nurses as they need time off or leave their position. We may offer mostly 1-day shifts for you in the beginning, but will be flexible to adjust to your nursing school, weekends may be needed. This job is perfect for someone who already has a 2 or 3-day job and would like supplemental income. If one of the existing 2 nurses needs to leave their position, you will be first to be considered for their job, and asked to work 2-3 consecutive-day shifts, as needed each week.

Applicants must be professionally trained to transfer and bathe later stage Alzheimer's patients. The job is compensated by a long-term care insurance company, so pay is non-negotiable, and you will be provided a 1099 at the end of each year. Pay is $120 per day (for 24-hr. shifts) and we are not able to split into shorter (less than 24 hour) shifts. This patient is transitioning into the last stage, somewhat ambulatory, still has an appetite, enjoys your company, and loves to be taken for short walks up and down Monument Avenue. Duties include what would be expected of most nursing agencies, including total charge of patient in her home (prepare meals (some light cooking), feeding, keeping hydrated, toileting, bathing, light housework). The patient sleeps on average 12-13 hours through the night and rests/naps several hours during the day. You should have plenty of time to do the light housework required while the patient is sleeping/resting, in addition to plenty of "down" time to read, study, watch basic cable TV, and sleep at night. We provide several room air cleaners for those with allergies, lots of medical equipment to make your job easier, including a tub transfer bench for easy transfer into the bath for showers, a hospital bed to help ambulate the patient up out of bed, bed alarm for nighttime, walker, transport chair, color portable baby monitor for nighttime and to allow you to manage duties or go into other rooms while monitoring the patient. You are provided with a separate bedroom with TV, phone, and small refrigerator, and separate bath. Because the patient is on a small fixed income, we cannot negotiate more pay, but do manage to give small bonuses throughout the year, and larger bonuses for working on holidays, if you choose. We have had great success with quality caregivers, several have been with us for years. Please do not contact this job posting if you are not seriously interested in this job and satisfied with the pay and shift requirements that we have posted. You will find it is a lovely home, great work environment, and the patient is a sweet little lady with a sense of humor. You are also given free room and board, meals provided, based on the food that we provide for the patient: basic, well-balanced meals. If you want snacks, soft drinks, and any special food, you may bring your own and may keep them in your refrigerator in your room. Thank you!

This job requires 24-hour shifts with a minimum of 1-day shifts (arrive 4:30 p.m. and leave the following day 4:30 p.m.) and to serve as a backup for 2 existing nurses as they need time off or leave their position. This job is perfect for someone who would like supplemental income. You will be first to be considered for their job if one of the 2 existing nurses takes leave. We would then ask you to work 2-3 consecutive-day shifts weekly. You are encouraged to email a resume reflecting your experience in caregiving, work related references, and you have your own transportation. We can only hire NON-SMOKERS due to patient's condition. The difference in a job like this, I have been told by satisfied employees, is that you are able to provide one-on-one care, schedule your day around the patient's needs, unlike nursing homes, an ideal situation for a caring nurse who is tired of working in facilities where you have to pace your day to care for multiple patients.
