Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Charleston, SC)
•Inspect, diagnose, and repair power train, hydraulic and electrical systems with minimal instruction and no supervision•Arc weld as needed
•Use oxy/acetylene torches to cut and fabricate
•Use technical manuals and diagrams as required in the course of work
•Responsible for some on site work
•Complete work orders and paperwork associated with maintenance work
•Attend training and be able to clearly demonstrate knowledge acquired
•Attend and occasionally facilitate safety meetings
•Work with class 2 mechanics to improve their skills
•Create and maintain clean shop and working environment
•Any other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
3 – 5 years experience in this capacity
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED
Drivers license and clean 3 year driving record
Great attention to detail
Ability to operate and maintain equipment in a safe manner at all times
Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with a wide variety of individuals

Also while being in this company I did the all the oil changes that entered the shop along with any fuel service that needed to be done. I did most of all the steering and suspension concerns that entered the shop, such as tie rod ends ball joints.

I also took charge and received a driver position with-in the company. This job conceited of me driver the bus inside the wash bay and also fueling and backing up. After showing my work ethic and my skills I was quickly promoted to assistant manager.

In this company I started off as a technician and did the following work duties, I was to do all fluid exchanges on vehicles after testing with refrectometer and checking proper level and condition. I would then conduct the following oil, transmission, power steering, coolant exchange. I also did alignments on a Hunter laser roll back machine. Including in my job duties I did, Brakes and Steering and Suspension repair which also included Inner Tie rods outer Tie rods, Ball joints Control arm bushings and Sway bar bushes and links. After doing quite well in the shop I was put in the front office time to time to help customers with any questions about their vehicle they might have. In being in the office I helped the Owner process sales on Midas direct connect program. This Microsoft based program included point of sales, history of sales and direct link on automotive repair. After learning the above programs and my skills interacting with customers brought me to a new position which I gained expeditiously. In the position of Shop Manager Trainee I was in charge of running the shop with help from the owner which included bay management putting stock away and ordering new parts and helping technicians diagnose and repair faster for a more thorough and prompt repair.

Before doing any Engine Repair in the shop I diagnosed the concern. In conducting the repair I used all major scanners to help aid in my process. I also utilized flow charts and read electrical schematics which lead me to the correct diagnoses. I educated entree level technician about proper diagnoses and computer learned behavior. After being a lead technician in the shop I was quickly promoted to Shop Manager. In this new gained position I interacted with customers and explained repair issues and the critical need for the repair. I also assisted the G.M in new concepts to help the store grow and maintain good service. If the G.M had a day off I was in charge of operating the store and administrating all employees. When the G.M would handle day to day business, it was also my job to maintain a clean shop environment and govern employees, which gave me the title of assistant manager I would also process sales by using Merlin’s Microsoft based program.

In this company I started off as counter sales men. I worked at this company while I was attending school. I helped customers find parts by using an electronic catalog and searching for their part by the year, make, and model of their vehicle. I also helped customers find floor items as well. I help put stock away every week for items that needed to be replenished. I tested battery’s starters and read OBD (On Board Diagnoses) codes on a daily bases. I help aid customers in understanding why a certain code would come up as a check engine light, and what it may take to correct the problem. After completing the sale I would check the customer out and continue to help the next person. After closing the store every night I would help the shift supervisor in counting down the till.
