Job Title: Direct Care Associate

The Direct Care Associate is responsible for creating an environment that is safe, healthy, and motivating for the consumers. The staff is responsible for providing basic care for consumers assigned to the home, and encouraging residents to function to the best of their ability as independent members of society.

Job Duties:

Ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
Provides basic personal care and grooming, including, bathing, hair care and teeth brushing, and assistance with selecting and dressing.
Assists consumers in learning and executing daily living skills.
Experience with Mental Illness Consumers
Assists consumer with medications, which are ordinarily self-administered as ordered by a physician.
Performs household services essential to the consumer's health and comfort in the home, such as rearranging furniture to enable the consumer to move about more easily in his/her home.
Assesses, monitors, and supervises the consumer to ensure the consumers' safety, health and welfare are maintained.
Light cleaning tasks in areas of the home used by the consumer.
Prepares shopping lists appropriate to the consumers' dietary needs and financial circumstances, performance of grocery shopping activities as necessary, and preparation of meals.
Accompanies the consumers to medical and other appropriate
appointments.
Daily documentation of consumer activities in progress reports.
Ensures that all consumer rights are protected.
Assists in consumer recreational activities and accompanies consumers for short walks outside the home and on other outings and trips.
Conducts routine emergency drills.
Operates company vehicle to transport consumers to appointments and social activities.
Clerical and other duties as assigned.
Light maintenance as required.

Skills Needed:

Very good oral and written communication skills.
Possess an understanding of mental retardation/developmental disabilities.
Knowledge and experience with mental health and medical terminology.
Ability to perform basic cleaning techniques and basic cooking skills.
